When I was a kid, I remember taking a single word...and then saying that word over and over and over and over and over again...until the meaning/familiarity of the word dissolved, leaving behind a strange construct of sounds....nothing more. Abstract. Watching "meaning" dissolve like that...left a strange impression on me.
Zazen...I think.....maybe is similar in practice.....the practice of focusing silent awareness on one's own sense of self...over and over and over and over and over again..until the self melts away right before ones very eyes....leaving the stark, unshakable truth....pure, naked awareness.
