Thanks for your reply Castor. I was wondering how the books compared to the movie and you answered my question I watched the last of the trilogy last night. I observed he (J.R.R. Tolkien) wrote the lyrics to songs sang in the movie (and of course they came from the book).
He really knew how to get into the human soul, see the good and the evil, the courage and the fears, strength and weakness...and ultimately in his vision those best qualities are what we strive for and which prevail. I can see how you got a lot out of his writings and vision.
A friend I was watching the movie with kept asking why Gandalf was not using his power more, he was waiting for a big show of magic I guess. I didn't say anything but I was thinking Gandalf likely is using his power in ways others cannot even perceive. And also maybe its more noted in the books. I did think it was interesting my friend remarked that though, because I was thinking the opposite, that Gandalf was a big part of their winning the battles. My friend missed seeing all the behind scenes direction that he provided.
Well, I just may have to check out the books by J.R.R. Tolkien now
