It has always been my view that a paradox about Castaneda is that his teacher taught him why real and successful naguals can NOT be gurus.
The spirit selects the apprentice, and all other encounters with others. If Castaneda was at the end of the line, then all of those apprentices that he chose and developed relationships with were doomed to fail, as he would have been acting as a guru, he cannot have any apprentices to continue his lineage. The new lineages (if they are to come) will require naguals that have their own spark and bonafide knowledge. They WONT make much noise, lead massive workshops, or draw attention to themselves. We're proabably talking about decades of real development and work, and even then - I often have my doubts that any new cycle is to get started at all, maybe it won't come for another century or two.
That being said, the energetic configuration of nagual does not necessarily mean that person is more powerful, wise, or even has superior leadership skills. It could merely be the person that pulls everyone together, in spite of his or her flaws, and carries the group forward. Leadership 101 is that it is the individuals in the group that collectively give the leader his impetus, no the other way around.
You won't find a real teacher or nagual until the spirit arranges the appointment. Spirit transcends ego and self-importance.
NOW - if you are walking down a street, turn a corner, and run smack dab into someone that knocks you both to the ground, you have a conversation, shake hands, the moment you touch there is a dust devil swirling through the street...that is something else. An encounter like that cannot really be ignored. It may well be a dead-end, but you also cannot ignore the possibility that those were omens setup by spirit.
Anyone that advertises themselves as a nagual - I run from. Instead of proclaiming to be naguals, why don't they actually demonstrate?
I am reminded of my kung fu instructor. He entered the room and never demanded discipline, suddenly the room would get serious and quiet, as if ready to work and learn. We said 'yes Sifu' because we felt compelled to. We pay attention because if we were doing a technique wrong we would get knocked to the floor when the application was demonstrated, and demonstrated very well.
Where are the Naguals? I've not met one, no one has demonstrated to me that they are, and the spirit has not made the arrangement.
That is why I never bothered to seek out Castaneda himself or any of the cleargreen crew, as a friend of mine once did. There was nothing that subliminal stirred me to do so. I also would be in with another cult-like group that practically worshiped Castaneda rather than making their own story. If I am to find my nagual, there wont be much I can do to avoid it. And if it happens, I doubt it will be a case of drunken devotion, but more a sober mood of 'let's get down to business'.
Spirit chooses warriors as well. People who 'want' to be warriors or sorcerors or whatever are cracked. We become warriors, seers, or sorcerors due to circumstances that don't give us a damn choice. We do or die. You may-well be one of the 'cracked' ones, but maybe these words will strike a chord with 'someone'.
"I am no Nagual, so I expect far more than what I experienced at that time from a fully fledged nagual."
But why? A fully fledged nagual may well crush you far more than any 'fake' one. The nagual certainly would if you had any expectations whatsoever, since expectations aren't worth much more than used toilet paper. And why declare you are not a nagual?? You might be - that's not a compliment.
I would love to say that I am a 'man of action' in the same way Don Genaro was, mostly due to really feeling something like tentacles coming out from the gap (midsection), and it's so much easier to lift things when I imagine their use. Until I am able to tumble around or use them to leap 30 feet at a time, I don't feel justified in making that proclamation, because I can't, at least not that I know of lol. Best I can do is stay aware of it, but also that it may well be a delusional folly.
And if all the stories about naguals are even half-true, they would be able to demonstrate something. I doubt this Lujan Matus (funny he chose such an obvious Castanadian name for marketing purposes, what a fraud, that alone gives him away) can demonstrate a damn thing.
