I don't literally mean no one ever helps anyone, but people walk by crimes all the time because it's not their problem and they don't want to get involved.
And every time you get involved, you jump in. You appear on the scene. You push your way in.
It's not violent as in lethal violence. But at the very minimum you have to force your way through the inertia. You at the very least have to make a noise so someone notices you.
