I was reading from some DJ quotes in the sorcery forum...
To master the first attention uses stalking
To master the second attention uses dreaming
It seems to me as one is doing this, and getting more and more adept, the third attention starts to descend upon one naturally. So, rather than a warrior be concerned with getting to the third attention s/he can work diligently on stalking and dreaming and see/experience the cumulative effects which will usher in the third. A practical approach.
So when stalking the tonal (first attention) one should stalk for the freedom from tonal fixations.
When in dreaming (second attention) one needs to stalk dreaming positions, gain control over dreaming. I recall Mothsdream saying on more than one occasion that being a stalker is an asset for dreaming. I see more clearly now what she was referring to specifically which she said also recently about stalking being done to fix the ap in dreaming upon a position, and more than one position, multiple over time.
