I've had some pretty profound dreams with sabertooths!
You ever hear the Hindus who say so many thousands and thousands of years ago there were no predatory species of animals living on this planet? Humans had extremely developed nasal cavities(there's all these empty caves and stuff under nose by our brain) that absorbed nutrients out of a much denser and actually blue(not green) atmosphere. Like our upper senses are mostly withdrawn now and very primitive to how they once were our digestive tracts were shriveled and mostly inactive then but there just in case they were ever needed. So my theory goes as the FI took over and the planet became extremely predatorial our super sensory powers began withdrawing out of our noses as our digestive systems became extreemly active and required a ton of energy to operate.
So I bet saber tooths used to use their huge teeth to climb trees and pick fruit and punch open coconuts! Haha!
