In dictionay.com, "ruthlessness" is defined as follows:
without pity or compassion; cruel; merciless: a ruthless tyrant.
feeling or showing no mercy; hardhearted
You can't have it both ways.
I think DJ later said ruthlessness was not the best word. Anyway, for me pity means 'concern for self" and does not take into account the whole. So to have no pity is to be free of that, a freedom which can bear many positive feelings... unconditional kindness, love, joy...or it could be just clear mindedness. What is detached is the social view, so the place of no pity does not understand, identify nor want to, the socailized perspective, dual perception, and labeling of things good and bad, us and them etc.
Indeed. That is, there is no place for morality, although I suspect you had non-duality more in mind.
Two characters from movie productions come to mind which embody utter pitilessness, imo: The Joker, in "The Dark Knight", and Blue Duck in "Lonesome Dove". In don Juan's illustration of the state, he drives Castaneda to it by publicly denouncing him as I recall. It seems truly to be a state no one chooses because it is amoral and we are all taught "to be good".
