It is best to be controlled by an awareness of reality.
In reality, we are all destined to die at some particular moment. We are all ignorant of when that moment will occur.
It may be that that moment is the next moment that we experience. If we keep that in mind, we will at some moment be fully prepared for that moment.
It's not rocket science. It is the condition in which we exist. It is an awareness of reality.
Ignorance (or ignoring) is the reason that we are not aware of reality as we should be. We choose not to be.
Another good example of this ignorance hit me one day.
Humility. Or loss of self importance is nothing more than an awareness of what is real. To know that we are no more or less important than anyone else is something that everyone agrees on, but very few "realize" really.
Watch people in traffic, or listen to politicians. There is enough proof there to illustrate what I mean.
Humility is not Acting as if you were less than anyone else. It is realising we are all in the same boat.
That, as I said, is nothing more than an awareness of what is.
