The timing of this thread...and of me coming across this thread and reading it just now, is so cool.....and, of course, indicative of the very source of the power of "wayfinding" as described by Nainoa which guided him during the doldrums.
First off, I did not know that the term "doldrums", colloquially used to describe an emotional/cognitive state in which one is swallowed by gloominess/moodiness/depression/low energy/perception of stagnation, actually comes from this navigational term used to describe part of the ocean which harbors some of these qualities.
From dictionary.com:
"1. a state of inactivity or stagnation, as in business or art:
August is a time of doldrums for many enterprises.
2. the doldrums. a. a belt of calms and light baffling winds north of the equator between the northern and southern trade winds in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
b. the weather prevailing in this area.
3. a dull, listless, depressed mood; low spirits"
And then, the synchronicity of reading this post today....and coming home from work last night, I sat down with my kids watching Moana, which I've never seen before. As Wikipedia describes it..."The film tells the story of Moana, the strong-willed daughter of a chief of a Polynesian tribe, who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic with a goddess. When a blight strikes her island, Moana sets sail in search of Maui, a legendary demigod, in the hope of saving her people."
On her quest, she's both chosen and then guided by the ocean itself, which becomes a personification of this "wayfinding" described above....the hand of the spirit which helps her along the way toward the completion of her quest.
Wayfinding....its real, without question. Current synchronicities attest to it
