Dragonfly
#3
I read an entry about dragonflies in a book about allies (Chris Lüttichau's Animal Spirit Guides). This is what it says (I underlined parts that seem to link to my dream and gave the dream link in small font within brackets):

DRAGONFLY
* Mesmerise * All potential * True self

In the magical land of Mexico, where dreaming and reality often merge, I was on the beach one afternoon near the pyramids at Tulum. All of a sudden I became aware of a colorful dragonfly. Soon, many more joined in, flying back and forth in front of me. Hypnotized by their dance, I was filled with a sense of mystery.  (--in the dream the movement of the tall man really drew and held my attention)

Those iridescent wings can mesmerize us, altering our consciousnesses and taking us into a shimmering world. This is the realm of the soul. (--when we came to the flower part of the dream it seemed to me like the air shimmered a bit and I felt I was in an altered state of awareness). Dragonfly's first teaching is to make space for mystery.

If we remain locked in our rational mind, we lose touch with our heart, soul and spirit. Rationality and logic dominate modern western culture, but do not help us to identify our authentic purpose. Dragonfly encourages us to see the illusions that define us. Let him guide you to the forgotten part of your soul, so that an understanding of your true self can begin to emerge.  (-- the dream ended with the shaman telling me true things about myself. I think I knew those things because I was in an altered state but in my state now I do not know if I would know. Also, another intent I was having the last couple days is to remember myself from the past and my past self and this seems to link to the dragonfly too)

Dragonfly often hovers in one place, held there by the rapid movement of his wings. From this still center he moves up, down, backward, forward, left, right. These are the seven directions: the sky, earth, east, south, west, north and finally center. This shows that dragonfly is the keeper of potential.

He begins his life in the water and then goes through a long process of transformation before emerging in his full magnificence. (-- in the dream I saw the dragonfly by the water, on a bridge between water. I am very much linked to water. And I hope to be on a path of transformation). He teaches that we can pursue our dreams. Realizing our true potential, in a way that also benefits other people, is the ultimate expression of the power of the dragonfly.

Dragonfly is extremely difficult to catch, and this ability, combined with his astonishing swiftness and accuracy when he hunts insects in the air, makes him a superior warrior. If you need help with battles you are fighting, or with goals you want to accomplish, call on the dragonfly.
