This song helped me a lot. It triggered a kind of emotional cleansing / epiphany. It came at the right moment, I was ready for it. I cried like a baby Smile, there was a mix of many emotions involved. Not least of all gratitude. There was some sorrow in it too, linked to these things happening, linked to the feeling of loss and how one then has the longing for wholeness... but there was also an acknowledgment of the fact that there is a path towards it, one that actually works... and hence again gratitude for that.

In short, the song tells of the loss that most of us experience during our life. It is a change from being connected to our inner soul and everything around us to a state of being disconnected. And expresses this heart-felt wish to return to that state from before the loss. In Joseph's case this is seen also externally on him losing his family and his multicolored coat.
The words "may I return to the beginning" are at the core of it all. And some say this is what it is all about for us warriors. Returning home is another way to say something similar. For me it also links to memory, after being disconnected from a certain state or level of awareness we also often lose the memory of what happened when during that state. Similarly, when there is a soul loss, sometimes the soul part takes the memories with them. Returning to the beginning is a returning to wholeness.

Maybe the only thing I would change about the song is the "any" part. I am surely not up for "any" at the stage I am at. But it shows the desperateness of Joseph - he lost a certain reality, state of awareness and any glimpse into it would be better than what he has now.

My stanza by stanza analysis/interpretation of the song:

(Jospeh)
I closed my eyes, drew back the curtain
To see for certain what I thought I knew
Far far away, someone was weeping
But the world was sleeping
Any dream will do
---- Joseph is a dreamer. Going into dreaming means opening the world and being able to see the truth of things. For him closing his eyes is not about shutting down but about opening up. As he is falling asleep he basically draws back the curtains to see. But it also seems his intuition is strong. He intuits the truth and then the dreams show it to him more clearly and for certain. He is connected to the world and others (he knows/feels someone is weeping far away and that others are sleeping). Any dream will do -- here I can see it in more ways. He is fine with / cherishes anything that comes to him from this state. He is grateful for any glimpse coming from this unordinary state.

(Joseph & Children)
I wore my coat, with golden lining
Bright colors shining, wonderful and new
And in the east, the dawn was breaking
And the world was waking
Any dream will do
--- He has his coat, which is an external expression of his abilities and state of awareness. It is great when the inner and outer are in sync  (similarly now I am reminded how I felt good in black because inwardly I had a feeling of loss of 'colors' and how as I was healing I started changing what I wore etc). He is still connected to the larger world (he is aware that dawn is coming and feels the people waking).

(Joseph)
A crash of drums
(Narrator)
A flash of light
(Joseph)
My golden coat flew out of sight
(Joseph & Narrator)
The colors faded into darkness
I was left alone
--- This is the moment of loss or trauma. It happens as a shock (crash, flash). It is unexpected. He is not prepared for it. One could even see a link to soul loss where the coat flies off with the soul fragment and because he is no longer whole he loses a part of his connection, abilities and well-being. As he is no longer whole he cannot wear the coat. The colors fade into darkness - this is the change from his previous to his current state. Now is a state of darkness and he is no longer connected - he is alone (also symbolized by the loss of his family).

(Joseph, Narrator & Children)
May I return to the beginning
The light is dimming, and the dream is too
The world and I, we are still waiting
Still hesitating
Any dream will do
--- Here this is his heart and soul wishing, hoping to get back to the way things were (I wrote about the symbol of 'the beginning' a few lines above). He lost the colors and now he is slowly losing the light and the dream. These are symbols for life. Life in general and for a life that is connected to Spirit. But he has some memory of how it was before and that it is possible. He does not want to give that option up - he is waiting and hesitating - He does not want to give up and content himself with living an 'ordinary' disconnected life.
Any dream will do - here I'd read a hint of desperation. Any glimpse or link to that previous state even if it is painful, sad, terrifying would be better than nothing. (and, for example, we know that often people who are disconnected but have some subliminal connection to power have great nightmares - Florinda was like this too)

(Full Company)
May I return to the beginning
The light is dimming, and the dream is too
The world and I, we are still waiting
Still hesitating
Any dream will do
Give me my colored coat
My amazing colored coat
Give me my colored coat
My amazing colored Coat
--- Joseph keeps wishing. And this is one of the important and useful devices that we have at our disposal - wishing. Impeccable wishing is a great tool. It moves the spirits Smile. He is wishing for this with the whole fiber of his being that he has at his disposal. This is magic and it works. It leads one on a path that works Smile, a path that leads to the beginning - home.
