Ayahuasca (also teonacatl,salvia divinorum)
#18
I spent 4 months in Peru back in 2000, and took "la madre medicina" about 60 times.  This was in a shamans' camp in the town of Tamishiaku, about 4 miles inland from the Amazon.

I found it extremely visionary, which is to say it acted a great deal upon the occipital lobe of the brain, producing lucid-dreamlike imagery.  The images were by no means random.  In fact when various "tour groups" came and went, there were definite themes that recurred within each group.  In one group for instance, many people reported seeing visions of large black cats, (jungle panthers) and feelings of strength from this.  Themes varied, but always there was significant nature based information coming through.  By that I mean images of animals, (totems if you will) and their qualities, plus a lot of Earth-centered material that dealt with the evolution of life, plant and animal energies and auras. A feeling of unity with the earth and it's consciousness was unmistakable. I wrote a great deal during that period, and lived in a three-story thatched hut for a few weeks alone as part of my arrangement with the shaman, (Don Agustine Rivas).

The onset of the Herb, (which by the way was mixed with another called Chacruna, that liberated the molecule) was a strong sense of heat in the navel area.  The nausea was very intense and cleansing, but if one could go into that heat it created a strong sense of personal strength, and soon the nausea usually disappeared.  My meditation practice helped immensely to make sense of the experiences, guide them at will to some degree, and to remain "stable" during the vision-states.
