While I think I understand what you are saying here..the phrase can be taken two ways. When I say the tonal does not trap me its becasue no matter how entrenched I get, the nagual releases me...sometimes with an gentle pull, other times with a huge blast (collapse of tonal indentifications).
When you say 'hope' the tonal 'traps'...in what way do you mean. How can trapping be a good thing? I do think the nagual can hook us and that's indeed a good thing, as we reside simultaneously in the tonal as this occurs.
