The world of the nagual starts with the supposition that the ap exists and it is a fixed thing for most of a human's life, that is partially true for the awake hours alone in dreaming the notion changes. Humans have a very loose ap even in old age that is why some are young at heart, and have a youthful disposition. For a desired understanding i will explain first what happened to Talia and Julian in the fields of Mazatlan a long time ago.
The young nagual man teacher Elias found was already pushing his sick body to it's limits by acting even if he was tiered, the woman he found was quite powerful yet with a loose ap in awake state that today would qualify as day dreaming or if kept that way mental illness. Because of the effort they both died together on that field i suppose she died of a mild seizure when she swallowed her tongue, him of a massive hemorrhage. The old nagual moved their ap to a point where death did not exist so my best guess would be he moved them to their neither here nor there spot, the reincarnating human spot they had while babies are in the womb, until he could find and remove the possible death cause. Once the cause was removed they were revived yet both had an uncontrollable movement of the ap. That manifests as a vegetable state with slips in and out of the everyday awareness. For such happenings the nagual's eyes alone could not help much so he must have been aided by his own party, and my best guess they split in two smaller groups one seeking the man one the woman with only one awake guide the teacher himself. When he managed to see that they found one he had to guide them step by step to the everyday life by using familiar points they were able to focus on aiding the new found being to focus it's attention on that.( when an awake being guides a dreaming party those dreaming see portals or holes). And they returned all to this existence with no repercussions on their life afterwards except the moment they had to depart so i guess they have achieved the stabilisation of the ap as pair and as group. The woman kept her loose ap yet by will and personal achievement learned to control it better and the man ended up transforming himself into whatever he wanted without endangering his existence for lack of experience again.
That spot is particularly dangerous because it happens when the cocoon collapses so the next thing a human would do to continue living would be pull the cocoon meridian by meridian back, first the back( spine), then the cardinal( considering north as the back ending with east) directions then the midle the middle of the middle until the cocoon looks like a frail vertical string alignment. ( takes a lot of time but once the cardinal positions are stable the ap point fixes). After this vertical cocoon is complete the being has to pull one by one the parallel fibers starting with the top of the head and the feet then the distance has to be split in two and the gaps filled slowly ( the being will be able to harvest much of it's anterior life experience once the four central parallels are in place), then one day it is able to unite both into one totality under today's face. ( huge task but i have seen enough achieve it so i can explain it today hoping it will aid a woman). It is not a great mystery the problem is humans do it, some even untrained yet cannot explain how.
