Actually Nagualism itself is spirituality (religion even). Don Juan as he is written by Castaneda has his own personal spirituality evident in his terms such as the Eagle, Infinity, Spirit, the Dark Sea of Awareness etc, thats how he chose to name 'Deity' as he and his lineage experienced / conceptualized It.
Its nice not to be bound by the definitions of others.
I think what 'don Juan' was eluding to is the difference between the spirituality of direct experience versus a psuedo-spirituality based on fantasy~ or the difference between the religion of love/ personal revelation/spiritual experience and a religion of fear/tradition/bound by dogma-
Again also I remind you 'don Juan' was not infallible and all his pronouncements should be questioned with a critical thinking approach rather than blindly believed or even 'worshipped'.
