“You’re again confusing issues. Solace, haven, fear, all of them are
moods that you have learned without ever questioning their values. As
one can see, the black magicians have already engaged all your
allegiance.”
“Who are the black magicians, don Juan?”
“Our fellow men are the black magicians. And since you are with them,
you too are a black magician. Think for a moment. Can you deviate from
the path that they’ve lined up for you? No. Your thoughts and your
actions are fixed forever in their terms. That is slavery. I, on the
other hand, brought you freedom. Freedom is expensive, but the price is
not impossible. So, fear your captors, your masters. Don’t waste your
time and your power fearing me. I
knew that he was right, and yet in spite of my genuine agreement with him I
also knew that my lifelong habits would unavoidably make
me stick to my old path. I did indeed feel like a slave."
The Toltec Wisdom unveils the magical existence we have unknowingly been
living our entire life. The downside to this is that we have
undoubtedly enslaved ourselves and our fellow man through the mis-use of
words. The current agreements we have made and the collective realities we live by means of gossiping
and judging others and repeating what we hear without thinking for ourselves and parroting mis-information has enslaved humanity to a lower level of potential. We unwittingly re-create that which we do not want, by using our words as creationary spells.
Becoming aware of black magic being spread around us can be enlightening for some yet can be frightening
when considering the possibility that the only way to change the world
is to change agreements with our own Self. As don Juan and Miguel Ruiz
suggest, we need to acknowledge the black magic in order to make new
agreements based on human potential and purpose. We can dis-spell black magic only with awareness and the Intent to create new agreements.
