Speaking of sex, Rosy, here's an oldie but goodie...
The energy of sexuality is an incomprehensibly powerful resource to be tapped into and drawn from by the Warrior.
The formula is exactly the way a Warrior would live. To abstain, to go on a long-term sexual fast in conjunction with a life of well-rounded physical discipline creates a kind of abstract heat in the body. Even if compulsive sexual activity still occasionally happens, to become deeply miserly of sexual energy has immediate effects on the basic energy level and subsequently on one’s ability to experience the second-attention.
The American Guru, Adi Da (formerly known as Da Free John,) used to describe a disciplined life as generating a sense of frustration in the devotee. If sustained, this frustration, created by the vigor of our old, undisciplined tendencies, generates what he referred to as an abstract “heat.” This heat is the result of a surplus of energy being stored in the physical body, energy we used to discharge in our old, degenerative patterns of behavior. You are able to feel it building over time and you may not wish to endure it.
Hence, the world-at-large exists as we know it, filled to the brim with myriad ways to dissipate our energy, to pull it away from our vital centers and to encrust it on the outside of our cocoon. When the practitioner is capable of sustaining the disciplined lifestyle and enduring the heat of it, amidst the course of his/her daily life, the heat continues increasing exponentially, igniting an abstract “fire” within the body, consuming and burning away the old tendencies. The term used for this straightening of intent was “freeing attention.”
Each day of sustained dedication and regenerative action brings about more and more free attention, attention that is no longer absorbed in old patterns of degenerative action and thought, no longer caught by the fascination with degenerative patterns of behavior. This free-attention needs to be redirected into regenerative, vitality-enhancing action or, by tendency, it seeks absorption again in habitual patterns. Freed attention needs to be re-trained into healthy, regenerative action and thought patterns, then given a chance to become absorbed in the new, regenerative behavioral patterns.
Regenerative actions are those that safeguard vitality and regenerative thought is thought that leads to fluidity, detachment and inner-silence. Physical regeneration occurs only as a result of abstaining from sex and/or the daily practice of a disciplined, regenerative lifestyle. Abstaining from sex can be likened to damming up the outward flow of the bio-energetic chemistry thrown off during the sex act, and saving large pools of energy in the process. The biochemistry of the reproductive system begins pooling its resources within the body and then begins to gradually activate the secondary functions of various organs, an evolutionary realm where many fear to tread.
The heat is too hot for those without a capacity for fierce discipline. The heat can be terribly uncomfortable for a time while the rebalancing and reconditioning effort is established and then stabilized.
In fact, the blood takes on a major role in the house cleaning process so it is wise to take measures to assist the blood’s carrying capacity by keeping it well oxygenated as much as possible. The blood, in conjunction with the breath, carries large quantities of toxins out of the system and while it is loaded down with toxins, (i.e. the lethal residue of our old tendencies,) its capacity for carrying oxygen is greatly reduced. Hence, your judgement is impaired, headaches occur, you generally feel like **** and want to indulge in a little something to make yourself feel better. This is when oxygenating your blood by whatever means possible will help you feel more balanced.
The actual cellular material that stores toxic molecules in the body is called the lymphatic part of the cell. It is like a gelatinous fluid within each cell. Since there is no blood flow to this inner lining of the cell wall the only way to move toxins out of the cells, where they are stored, and transfer them into the blood for elimination is via the medium of the breath. Cells need oxygen to purge toxins and remain healthy, and this is as a good a case as anyone has ever heard as to why exercise is so critical our overall health and well-being.
Understanding the mechanics of the body’s balances can aid in moderating one’s discipline and sensing when not to load up the blood too much. When the blood is loaded with **** that the disciplined practitioner is eliminating, it can be impractical and self-defeating to continue to overload the blood, because of the terrible imbalances that can occur. Sometimes, it’s best to go slower and steadier rather than trying to be a hero of discipline right out of the gate. The shock and pain of “house cleaning” can actually scare your body and make it become uncooperative, it rebels and makes the discipline process much more difficult than it has to be.
So, when the practitioner continues to fight the degenerative tendencies with some success, the accumulating biochemistry of sexuality becomes surprisingly strong, terribly intoxicating. As it pools up, it flows into places where the novice wouldn’t expect, creating surprising and often times overwhelming sensations.
The Inorganics and others have a feeding frenzy on you in dreaming unless you have the capacity to thwart them. “The Total-Package” needs to be in place with regards to the warrior arts, with regard to discipline. Every trick in your bag has to be available for action at a moments notice. One has to be eternally ready for the state of total-war, ready to move beyond reproach and away from any sudden scenarios of dreaming seduction or sudden hormonal surges in daily life. Severe energetic losses usually hit you on your blind side.
The surplus sexual energy and glandular biochemistry that are accumulating need to be redirected in an all-out effort for consciousness or their concentration creates in surmountable imbalances that drive one back to compulsive sexual acts and a holy host of energy dissipating behaviors. The newly acquired vitality of an initial period of discipline affords one the opportunity to rediscover old behaviors and dive headfirst into them with an all-new rabidity. Avoid this. A lack of control over one’s biochemical and energetic balances can make a difficult path become utterly, ruthlessly harsh and painful.
Failures such as these can turn a twenty year process into a forty year war and in many cases greatly reduce one’s chances for success and ultimately: freedom. It’s wiser to face the reality of our situation here and now rather than to go on believing that we still have time for one more day of self-indulgence. Be kind to yourself and never even begin to allow your attention to stray. This is where retreat helps and anything that calms one down should be constantly sought out. This is the time when a path with a heart becomes mandatory. Something that you can pour your entire self into, something you can be one with.
For example, one buddy of mine was good friends with a Native American Nahtual Family. During times of great personal struggle he used to go up into the mountains of Northern California to stay with them at their remote ranch. Daily, they would enter the Inipi (or Sweat Lodge) and then swim in the river, no matter the time of year. This is very good for cleansing the body, mind and spirit. The extreme heat and subsequent sweating aids in cleansing of toxins from the blood. Sometimes, during periods of tribal ceremony, when many different tribes would gather together at the ranch, they would sweat morning, noon and night. In between, they’d involve themselves in simple tasks that were calming to the spirit, cooling to the blood. He used to accompany the medicine chief and his warriors on their plant gathering journeys in order to accumulate several varieties of sage, as well as, incense cedar and other useful plants that had ceremonial significance for the Nahtual people. After, they would sit in a big circle around a roaring cedar, oak or cottonwood fire and tell stories while everyone worked at wrapping traditional bundles of the sage and cedar they had collected.
His involvement with the Nahtual was healthy for him and brought him into a deeper relationship with the Earth. The Earth’s energy absorbed the insanity that would build in him from time to time, it would rebalance his body chemistry by soothing the edge on his voracious energy. He would go to visit the Indians and they would welcome him as if he were their relation. He enjoyed their ceremonies for the sheer serenity of each experience although he did not subscribe to many of their traditional beliefs and views of spirit. He simply loved each of the people for who they were, as beings who have to die and they loved him and honored him as one of their own, one of their relations. The Nahtual family’s presence in his life was a gift from the spirit to this warrior / practitioner, for he was able to retreat on their property whenever he wanted and seek the guidance of the elders and the earth when his path had come to overwhelm him.
At this point in one’s growth, a practitioner needs to take refuge in the natural law of conductivity. He/she has to somehow find their own way into a state of being where one becomes a conductor of the flow of energy through the body. All the obstructions and restrictions to the free-flowing conductivity of energy through the body need to be addressed and released. It becomes essential to make serious attempts to move beyond reproach, to move into the realm of the warrior, and find whatever it takes to stabilize there. It comes time to learn the art of how to flow energetically, with no resistance to anything at all. Complete acceptance of everything just the way it is right now. Just moving through life like a breeze through the trees, like water rushing down the riverbed, flowing naturally into the Dark Sea of Awareness....
When thought is systematically reduced, quieted by different practices and a more harmonious approach to living, the amplitude of current is flowing freely from the bottom of the spine to the top of the head and outward, in every direction, through the luminous fibers. Breathing energy inward to the center of the body when we inhale and outward in every direction when we exhale. The mind enters inner-silence automatically, once the practitioner is energetically rearranged, and the boundaries of perception are broken very naturally.
Navigation begins to truly take place at this point, without fail, by virtue of the body reaching a state of energetic super-regeneration, where the flow of conductivity begins to gain incredible speed. One day the barriers of perception just fall, without even trying, and suddenly energy is perceived directly, without any drama at all. It just happens.
The powerful and intoxicating sexual energy, if successfully redistributed, continues pooling into a dark lake behind the Dam of Discipline and with the aid of forbearance, it begins flowing upward through the spinal column to the vital organs and outward, filling the luminous sphere with awareness. A bi-product of this redistribution of energy is that the mind experiences unimaginable clarity, continual illumination and is capable of what Castaneda calls True Thought or the Ability for Higher Reasoning. But again, the total-package has to be in place for a sustained duration in order to reach these states. The surplus of sexual energy causes the spinal column then to become a chimney of fire and the indescribable, “Wow!" feeling in the lower regions of the body, begins to overflow into the upper areas of the body and beyond. It begins to flow upward through the spine, rippling up the back and filling the head with a powerful thunder and light, flashes of insight. "The House of Thunder". The spinal path becomes a river of power in the body, tantalizing every goose-pimpling fiber of your awareness, filling your entire being with heartfelt awe and wondrous sensations.
Follow me, follow my vision
Follow me over the treetops
Look at the birds and butterflies
such colors, you will never see
On the ground.
I am rising into heaven
Rising toward the sun.

In closing, when a practitioner is able to endure the frustration of discipline and is able to allow the heat of redirected tendency to intensify in the context of regular daily life, he or she will steadily move, naturally, into the super-regeneration of personal energy and vitality.
If successful in stabilizing, the heat within the practitioner continually builds and the feeling in the genitals begins taking on powerfully intoxicating qualities, overflowing upward through the spine, moving upward through the blood with the help of the breath, into the higher and more sophisticated regions of the body. When the practitioner has found the strength that is needed to redistribute this highly-intoxicating chemistry, this is when the higher evolutionary mechanisms of the person, the secondary functions of the organs begin to activate.
Pooling sexual energy and redistributing it to the vital centers and to the more elevated faculties of the bio-energetic systems of the body, feeds the secondary functions with life-giving nourishment, allowing the practitioner to draw from these inconceivable resources, well-springs of vitality, health and well-being. The practitioner is then in command of the fire within his or her body and is able to intend the flow of the biochemical energy toward awakening dormant emanations at various positions in the luminous cocoon. The fire within one’s body, when sustained, eventually reaches a flash over point, becoming like radiant light that shines outward through the eyes, illuminating consciousness, enabling the practitioner to perceive energy directly, thus guiding the natural flux of the assemblage point. When all of these attributes are in place in a practitioner, the time has come to begin exploring the possibility of navigating the infinite.
