How to get into an Energetic Lineage

Doesn't engaging with a lineage essentially mean the same thing as following a leader? I definitely believe part of the process of evolving spiritually involves accepting direction from a guru, however, I also believe the next part of the process is going beyond the guru and not following anyone.



How does this finding lineage (i.e., discovering a designated Nagual) fit within that sort of scenario?
