1972 Interview with Carlos Castaneda
#2
"The world you and don Juan have pictured is full of magical coyotes, enchanted crows and a beautiful sorceress. It's easy to see how it could engage you. But what about the world of the modern urban person? Where is the magic there? If we could all live in the mountains we might keep wonder alive. But how is it possible when we are half a zoom from the freeway?

Castaneda: I once asked don Juan the same question. We were sitting in a cafe in Yuma and I suggested that I might be able to stop the world and to see, if I could come and live in the wilderness with him. He looked out the window at the passing cars and said: "That, out there, is your world." I live in Los Angeles now and I find I can use that world to accommodate my needs. It is a challenge to live with no set routines in a routinary world. But it can be done."

Indeed. I was noticing at my work, how the building is different each day. I remember many years ago, going to work and seeing the same place and it felt the same, looked the same and i hated it. I still don't like working in the sense i have things I would prefer to do, but now when I go to work, I can never return to the same place twice. I even feel sad sometimes, when I'm on a roll at work, getting stuff done, I say "too bad tomorrow it won't be the same vibe" I think the energy of the people has a big effect on the building. Years ago I could not sense the energies as well as i can today. The reason is years ago my internal dialog was so strong and repetitious. That's why work always seemed the same. Now I go to work and feel individual energies and combined energies and even larger scope energies at work. I am comfortable with the shifts in energy, the fact I never recognize the building as a set place is a relief to me, as energy flow is more envigorating than the stagnant energy of expectations in the mind, which is born from reason alone. So I agree with Don Juan and Carlos Castaneda, it really is about the body, using your entire body as a tool of perception. It is not about mystical transcendence nor introspection. The world and its mystery is outside us.

To practice sorcery, be sorcerers as described...First we face ourselves with total honesty, to see what we need to stop doing because it limit our ability as perceivers, second, we must do it (make the necessary changes in our behavior), not just make empty promises to ourself or intellectualize, third, we perceive new realities and that is when we get hooked. I do see that its like Carlos once said: people are seeing energy as it flows in the universe all the time, yet so few realize this, how is it possible? I have observed that most do it on a subcounscious level, they do it without fully realizing what they have done. And if you point it out to them, they may get tangled up in reason to explain it, rather then see they performed a magical feat. But seeing is quite common, being a sorcerer and taking seeing to an extreme level and ability, that is much much rarer and more fun then intellectualizing about everything. The key is to see everything as clear as possible, and to know at the same time you have not and never will, sovled any real riddles of the universe you see so plainly in front of you.
