Seems to me that it is more like god communicates and you turn it into symbols in an effort to understand.
Without the human life those symbols would have no meaning.
Also, merging back with the cosmic consciousness is something one does after death...and it would seem that if you did it now, while alive, your body would cease to live. To be in body is to be separate. When I stopped the world back in the mid-70's My mind did turn things into symbols in an effort to understand. That is because Don Juan left no symbols to follow. I was completely lost and knew I needed some kind of philosophy and /or guidance.
I found the Qabalah and a teacher and also found that the Bible, together with the Tarot and Qabalah are one system that share the same symbols.
Without human life those symbols would mean the same things. But who would understand the meanings?
We can hope we merge back after death and keep our individuality. But Jesus said "I and the Father are One." That is Christ Consciousness or Cosmic Consciousness. That was while walking around in a physical body.
In the Qabalah the "Father" is the second Sephirah. To become one with the First Sephirah is to merge with Kether the "Crown" and that would mean unmanifesting. There were those in the bible who did that; Enoch was one, Elijah was another and Jesus after rising from the tomb and coming back and spending 40 days teaching the Apostles he did it one more time.
Enoch never came back. Elijah came back as John the Baptist and later in a body of light. Jesus came back several times as recorded in the Bible and countless times since then.
Symbols are training wheels to point us in a direction. That direction is to constantly look behind the symbols in order to find the Reality that the symbols are signifying.
If the symbols are something we make up as we go along, they mean nothing except to us.
If those symbols (literary and pictoral) were left by those who have tread the paths of the Unknown for centuries before us, they are invaluable.
If those symbols (the very elements and objects we are surrounded by) were left by the Creator they are even more valuable.
My body will cease to live one way or another.
But while I am in this body I am at least partially dead anyway. Better to look for life than to die dead never having known what life is. This is the plane of Death and Decay. We are just unaware of it until we experience something of life to compare it with.
Jesus said, "Let the dead bury the dead and follow me." What do you think he might have meant?
This is beginning to be my favorite picture;
