My take on that is that most people (99.9%) will not gain the ability to see from the books... And if you see something controversial about Castaneda, thats
normal. Read ''The Sorcerer's Apprentice'' by Amy Wallace for example. The books are not easy to understand. To get a good feel of sorcery,
you need to read all of the books from CC, and read some of them twice. And ask questions on a forum like this one, to clarify certain subjects.
Also, reading wont get you seeing. Its by practicing specific exercises like dreaming and recapitulation, meditation, yoga and chi-kung or tai-chi. You have to
practice these for a number of years, 10 years or 20 or 30 years. And even then, it doesnt mean you will be a seer.
