To me solar and lunar have to do with direct and indirect intention. Lunar takes the direct power of intent and involves it in metaphorical applications like rings, temples, words/chanting/spells, rituals...that kind of thing. So, its an analog of what the light of the moon is in terms of a reflection of the sun's light. The moon really has no light of its own, in that respect.
Solar is simply power as a direct reflection of alignment with intent. One become a clear lens for that power, without diverting that power via mirrors, tunnels, refraction...though, if you think about it, prismatic refraction/reflection can be a beautiful thing, if it doesn't stray/divert/refract to such an extent that the source gets lost in the "house of mirrors" so to speak
