Yeah, I've been depleted on umpteen occasions secondary to my intermittent forays into addiction, trying to wring everything I could from those neurotransmission pathways built for euphoria, which modern man has figured out how to exploit. (BTW...any magic associated with helping resolve the "addict issue" would be appreciated......soul retrieval? Something along these lines?) As with you, indirect sources of joy, coming "from the woodwork" so to speak and, thus, from infinity/the spirit, are of my favorite variety. Like you, joy coming from direct exchange with others is infrequent to almost non-existent.
I think with things like addiction it is the same as power plants or poisons.
these things have a unilateral effect on all people who imbibe them.
as such you are binding yourself in addiction to millions of other people through
the quality of the substance you share.
because the basic change of the human assemblage is a gargantuan challenge
the binding also atatches you to a more generic and less personal form of assemblage fixation
meaning you are in a philosophical battle on behalf of millions of people by default.
so even for a powerfull sorcerer addictive chemicals will still be very advanced practice to control.
if you simply choose to not be addicted then it is an immediate failing in terms of intelligent co-operation.
I mysef have a horrible tobacco atatchment and could only limit it by finding a job within which i couldnt smoke.
as millions of people also share that situation.
so in summary- you take your addiction and the recognition that million share it.. and then you take another quality millions of people share and choose to cultivate that quality so as to shift focus..
NOT simply try to remove yourself from the influence of the drug.
not saying its the magical cure.. but it is a practical set of steps if you want to slide out of the frame into another.
I think I get what you're saying. To some extent, I'm employing that method....similar to your job where tobacco is prohibited. In a similar respect, I'm committed to my tonal family (and, in a more subtle fashion to my ethereal extended family) and that agreement/commitment ensures that I don't go off the rails too far. To help take care of my family, I've got a job which, like yours, exacts limits. I can't be effective at my job if I'm in full blown withdrawals or in full blown hangover. Still though...more framework adjusting needs to be arranged...to hone in on tighter limits which will help inner evolution flourish, I think.
