Winning and Losing
#2
Your story of the dogs fetching reminded me of when I went to this place 25 minutes outside of where I live, to look at a house for sale. The owner selling it was the son of someone we knew. Well, he had two dogs, a male and female. The male was the faster one, and when the guy threw the ball to 'fetch' the two dogs took off. The female ran her heart out, but try as she did, the male dog beat her to the ball. He'd pick it up, and then they'd both run uphill again ( house was on a hill). Just before the boy dog got to the owner, about 20 feet before, he'd drop the ball, on purpose, so the female could pick it up and carry it up to the owner. They did this time and time again, it was a well organized plan they had worked out it seemed.

Then the male dog disappeared for a year. We didn't know what happened to him, the owner was distraught, not to mention the other dog. Then, suddenly one day the owner found his long lost dog. A 'friend' had stole him. Kinda. The dog was found by someone who knew the owner, but he kept the dog and didn't tell him. But, visiting the place of work one day, he found his dog and angrily confronted the friend as to, "why didn't you tell me you had my dog?!" Anyway, long story short, the dog was reunited with his family.
