Thanks for the link Dreamgirl. I will keep my eyes open for that author next time I get a chance to go to a bookstore.
You may be right that it has something to do with losing the Ego. I think the Ego tends to get "thinner" as a person get older if they exercise any
amount of self reflection and observation of the human condition.
What I think I am describing are "Glimses." We all get them. Our gifts are various, as Wolf said, he knew I would be here. That is a manifestation of
a gift. His particular gift.
With me, it is different. I have experienced many varied spiritual things over the years. The one that seems to have repeated more than any is this Knowing
upon waking.
It is obviously related to dreaming, but not in the way most often thought of in relaton to Don Juan's and Carlos' experiences as related in
Casaneda's books. I do not travel to other places in the astral or even know that I am dreaming. I have tried with little success. Yet I know that Dreaming
of some sort (there are many gifts and many various manifestations of those gifts) has been given to me.
Many years ago I was given an experience of wearing the "Coat of Many Colors" which was given to Joseph, son of Jacob. He was called "A Dreamer
and interpreter of Dreams."
I think the bottom line is to observe ourselves and discover where we get our "glimses" from. How do glimses from the Spirit manifest themselves to
Us in particular? Pay attention to how exactly these experiences come to us. It is there, I believe we will grow from having "Glimses" only into a
full awareness of our place in this Dream we call "Reality."
It is There, in paying attention to our Particular Gift, whatever that might be, that we will come to Know that we have been Dreaming, while merely Assuming
that we have been awake.

And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place,
