If you have readen carefully "the art of dreaming", you´ll see that Don Juans cheates Carlos at the begining telling him that the 2nd Gate is about changing dreams. Later on the book, he discloses what the 2nd gate is all about: finding inorganic scouts and following them into their world. Crossing portals like mirrors, windows or wathever and not losing attention is a nice training anyway.
