2nd Gate - what is the purpose and benefit of it?

Going through the Art of Dreaming again.
I have come up to the point in Dreaming where finding scouts of IOB and asking them to take me to their realm is what is next to do. 
Don Juan did not like them at all nor doing it, it seems to me. 
I wonder if any of you can explain to me the importance of going to IOB realm and what effect it have had on you to do so.
