Interesting topic.
The Qabala is the study of the Tree of life mentioned in the Bible. There are many parallels to what you all have been saying about your dreams and Ygdrassl,
the Skandanavian Tree of life. Also in Carlos' writings I think.
In the Qabalistic viewpoint the Tree is the Pattern upon which manifestation is based. This runs through all levels Spiritual through physical.
Ten Sephiroth or "Emanations" of the unknown God. Each with a God Name for that shpere of operation. Each also has a name associated with it
concerning archangels and legions of angels. also demons and inorganic beings associated with each sphere.
There are also "guardians on the paths" similar to the Seraphim with a flaming sword that guards the Garden of Eden in the midst of which the tree is
located.
The paths are 22 in number and traversing these paths is each an initiation to the "Mysteries' associated with each path.
The "Great Bands of Emanations" mentioned by Don Juan seem to be identical to contacting the Emanations or Sephiroth upon the Tree. (The same word is
used in spite of the great difference in culture and time between the two systems.)
"Behold a ladder set up" which reached from heaven to earth" are the words Jacob used to describe this Tree when he saw it in a dream. Another
name for this Tree is "Jacob's Ladder".
I have experienced this same thing in a waking vision and I am convinced it is what Don Juan called "The Great Bands of Emanations."
It also had the qualities associated with both systems of knowledge. Multicolored (rainbow) tounges of flame,.. It reached from far above me and through me and
continued on through the earth and beyond below me (heaven to earth).
Numerically, the phrase mentioned before in Hebrew adds up to 888 which in Greek is the sum of the name Jesus who also claimed to be the Tree of life.
There are many ways to contact or connect with the powers on this Tree and that is the study and practice of the Qabala. Some of these are Dreaming, visions,
Rising on the Planes, becoming one with a Sephirah (or Emanation), Invoking an Archangel, or angel, or intoning a God Name. There is also the so called
Lightening Rod which is what I believed happened to me in that instance I mentioned above.
But as I said before there are guardians set upon the Paths to "keep the way of the Tree of Life" as the Bible puts it.
The powers it can convey are many, Wisdom, Knowledge, Healing, Miracles, Knowledge of other tongues etc., etc.
It is a blueprint of the whole of creation both visibnle and invisible and is a gift of the unknowable Creator of all.
Getting past the Guardians upon the Paths are what "Initiation" is. Not some man made ceremony, but real Initiations from the One Spirit.
