I don't feel like this is an 'elementary' dreaming experience! Whenever this has happened to me, I just slipped into it, no initiating on my part, except maybe by dreaming alot with the IBs in the nights prior.
Oh, one other time this happened to me, I was driving my car down a long stretch of road somewhere between Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I don't know if any of you know the Canadian Prairies, but they are pretty flat and uneventful! The road was long. I had been driving at night for what seemed like forever and everyone else in the car was asleep. Much of the trip was very interesting, a lot of dreaming energy around even from the beginning, but those are stories for another time.
This night, the quiet, to myself time, with nobody else around and just blackness ahead of me, in front and behind me, seemed to induce the state.
I drove, while dreaming for quite a while, though not sure how long until my passenger awoke and jarred me out. Somehwere I have written of the experience, I should dig it out, called it "Driving in a Dream". But all I can really say about it right now is that it is an experience that I will never forget!
