When a double meets another double they interact, do stuff.
In your case where you write about meeting yourself i can only offer a speculative guess to say that what you experienced only appeared to be another you. I would continue guessing and say that what you actually met was something very different from yourself. For some reason it appeared as you thats all. Like i said its just a guess about something that sounds quite awesome and totally outside what my guesses can nail down.
Curiously Robert Bruce author of books on OBE documents several experiences where his waking awareness met his projected self head on so to speak. He describes it being a worrying situation that he reailised he should stop. I'm not sure what to make of his account in all honesty. I believe what he says but i can not come to any clear explanation of how he survived this other than to propose that his projected self was not fully formed double at the time. Maybe his extra compartments somehow shielded him. No idea again really i am clutching at straws trying to explain it i just offer his name and works so you can read about it for yourslef and come to your own conclusions.
There have been a few other comments about tonal and double merging and questioning wether this is 'the fire from within'. In the classical sense no its not. Its just the two sides becoming more alike, sharing their energy and awareness. The first stage of this has been referred to as 'the abstract flight' or 'sorcerers crossing', where everyday awareness pases over into the energetic double. I understand it was also referred to as 'the lesser crossing'.
Fire from within is something else entirely, by several orders of magnitude.
