You do it for yourself, your freedom to live as a warrior free of agreements that weren't yours to begin with, such as the preditorial agreement...eat or be eaten.I do agree that we defeat tyrants for oursleves, for our own freedom!  bingo.   But in my experience when dealing with PTs, and there was a time in my life when I had (needed) a lot of them,  the only time I felt defeated was when I was playing their game, when I was buying what they were selling me.  When I realized, you know the aha! moment, that this person was my PT and that I was allowing my SI to feed his cause, is when I felt like I had won, or at least begun to win the battle with the tyrant.  So I can't say, that in my personal experiences with petty tyrants, that I have felt the defeat at the moment you describe above  or the selling out.   I feel like the minute I saw the situation for what it was, I was on top of the game and any chance the PT had previously had for defeating me was over, I had the upper hand.
Luckily I haven't had any PTs for a while.  I say luckily, even though the original post describes what a gift they are on our Path, because I feel like I am over the need for them, at least for now, having given myself many many opportunities to work with PTs in the past.  I have, though, on occasion had a couple of PT moments, but those have been moments when I have said to myself "Hey, wait a second, check your SI here!" lol so that is always a blessing, for sure!
