Ninth:
My petty tyrant comes in the form of people who overly indulge in idle
talk and constantly feel the need to express their opinion. I used to
think it was an unfeminine trait not to be able to engage in this style
of expression. I would find myself in these situations not feeling
inadequate for such expression....
I like your description of a petty tyrant here. Given this view of looking at the "petty tyrant", one of my petty tyrants would be "mood". Moods fog and confuse and create illusion. For quite a few years, I would use the Tarot for discernment. When I first recognized that moods were in control of me, I would do a reading on the situation at hand, any situation. The cards would consistently "read" the situation without mood! At first, I thought I'd read the cards "wrong" but then I realized that they were reading the situation without the influence of the mood. To recognize this was very liberating.
I now removed myself mentally from all forms of petty
conversation....
While I think I understand your sentiment here, I wonder how you determine which conversations are petty and which ones are not petty? Sometimes if I determine that a situation is such and so then I close off anything else that might take place. Because I don't like "chit chat" conversations I've often removed myself from a conversation too soon, not allowing for anything to take place because I'm "outta there". I don't always give the situation an opportunity to unfold because I've determined prematurely that it's not my deal. When I don't label the conversation, I can open up to the possibility that timing is at work, or that it will lead to something I've yet to see.
