To shake self-pity you have to embrace it. To move in that direction, I suggest a short affirmation: "I accept being a victim". As you can obviously imagine, self-importance starts when you say/feel/intend "I REFUSE to be a victim (again)".
So repeat the affirmation at least 21 times. 108 would be better. Or a million. Your choice.
If self-pity is always in the back of your head, self-importance will NEVER dissolve.
