I recall holding my breath when i was a child if i was extremely angry or upset and didn't want to give in to the feeling, it seemed to be automatic. As an
adult I've seen children do that. When I feel a strong surge of emotion these days, I may resist it for awhile but the time comes when I accept it and am
ready to release it. I usually lay on my side with my knees slightly bent and breath deeply while it comes, sometimes I lie very still and others I might move
around to facillitate breath and the process, sometimes I do both. It reminds me of labor and delivery.
I agree Mornings Son, Wolf and Captain, breath is essential. The method that Dr Green linked me to uses the breath as well. Ruh
