I actually found out the reality of this via taking drugs which I do not recommend. I suppose people will do what ever people do but I suppose this all started for me by realizing that my awareness has an effect on other peoples actions. I think that it may be a part of social conditioning to believe that what we do internally has no effect on others but that is not true.
I was once waiting in a line to buy a beer at a music festival. I was near the dance tent and it was early evening. I am usually quite warm to people so when a guy near me turned to me to talk I was all smiles and open. Right away i could see that this guy was not all smiles and the potential was for him to be violent towards me. I realized my mistake in assuming this person was going to be friendly just because that was how I was being. I was disappointed. That is when I employed a change of behavior. This change of behavior is possible because behavior is not how I thought it was. Actually we are able to perform three actions with people. We can either reflect their behavior, absorb behavior or block behavior. This only makes sense when considering that we are not all separate and that it is the alignment of perception within two people that interacts determining the course of actions taken. This guy did not know this and at the time neither did I but what I decided was that I no longer wanted to participate in this intersection so I blocked this persons behavior. i was surprised because he just stopped in his tracks and left me alone. It is because I was no longer willing to engage with person that he became unable to engage with me. This is true all the time. Just like it is true that we close our selves off from perceiving the greater whole of what is possible to be perceived we are by the same token open in the first place to everything that comes our way in life. People complain about how they are treated by this person or that but they do not understand that this behavior is merely a consequence of their own behavior.
It would be easy to think that because a person knows how to block behavior he is in a better position, putting a stop to all those unwanted interactions but as it is hopefully clear to see blocking behavior is nothing more than non participation. You may find as I did that non participation leads to a very small view of the world. As in my case i did not like to deal with anything beyond my comfort zone so the world became the smallest place possible, the world of the known! Taking in to account all that I know you can imagine what a small world that would be. It is by being open that we are led to new and wonderful experiences and where we learn to navigate the playing field of life. It is by reflection of behavior that we are able to see ourselves truly. A significant fraction of the human body is water and when the surface is still that water reflects.
