You make an interesting point here SB, everything one hangs onto is an attachment of sorts.  What they are saying is that there is a purpose to hanging onto some things...it doesn't make it any less of an attachment.  The response about history of dreaming used to help others with dreaming, while nice, is still attachment and self importance (determining some parts of self-history is more important than other parts of one's self-history). 
Perhaps in the new year we can all throw out the old concept that one can get rid of all attachments and still function in this world?
