Hey Sam,
Do you have any techniques for practicing stopping the internal dialogue when you are in public? There is a position of the assemblage point between the brows which is very effective for silencing the ID even in public. It's a matter of locating that point through your own meditations and experimentation, but on most humans it's slightly above the level of the eyes and slightly below the level of the center of the brows. I want to clarify that it isn't the traditional third eye, which is much higher on the forehead. This place of inner silence is like a parking space for the internal dialog, similar in nature to the assemblage point of silence in between dreams. Once you locate it, it becomes relatively easy to "park" the internal dialog and look out at the world through the eyes of silent awareness, experiencing things as they are, without all the internal chatter and commentary.
One way to help locate the point is this:
Place the middle finger of your right hand on the bridge of your nose, then begin slowly raising it while focusing your awareness on following the path of your finger. When you reach the point I'm referring to, you will most likely feel things go silent. With a little practice and a bit of intent, it becomes possible to move the AP to that position whenever you want to stop the ID. After awhile, the ID becomes retrained, and in many cases, stops altogether.
