ride holds us back from helping others. I've come to a wonderful conclusion recently... those who are the most generous with themselves are also the most selfish! Includes God, mother Teresa, Budda, whatever. They are the most selfish and their happiness comes from their love of helping others, CUZ IT HELPS THEMSELVES.
Developing our individuality is not a selfish pursuit. One is transcending selfishness, which is a social trait. As we develop our individuality we can do far more for others. Even our simple presence becomes uplifting. And besides, even if you are doing good to others just to get a self-important high for a while, you will seldom see the receiving end of help complaining about it.
Mother Teresa, Buddha and such are not selfish in their desire of easing the suffering of others nor they are in need of helping themselves. It's a natural tendency of their hearts when they are so at ease and see themselves surrounded by misery. That's the essence of compassion, a foreign concept in naguals affairs.
For the most of it, those who regard helping others as a selfish pursuit are the one that are excusing themselves for not wanting to move a pinky for anybody. Not you though Kao.
