Tibetan authorities of the Nyingma or "old" School , which was founded by Padmasambhava don´t believe in the physical immortality of Guru Rinpoche. They believe , that he realized "only" the rainbow body. The core practice of the Nyingma school is Guru - Yoga , union with the perfect state and divine qualities of Guru Rinpoche. It is one of the higher Tantras, called MahaYoga. The dissolvement of the physical body into the astral  body , is symbolized by the colours of the rainbow, which represent the subtle essence of the five elements earth , water, fire, air and ether after the purification of the material elements.  The impure or karmic human  vision is the equivalent to the assemblage point of the tonal. The pure vision is the major shift of the ap.  There are many records of advanced tibetan yogis who realized the rainbow body and left only hair and fingernails (regarded as impure elements ) in their meditation cell. The realization of the rainbow body is regarded by Tibetans as one of the highest possible spiritual goals.
The physical immortality of Guru Rinpoche is an interesting thesis , which cannot be denied on the basis of the tibetan biographies of Padmasambhava. The reports  are ending , that after he did  his job  in Tibet he went to an continent  in the southwest , to deal with some really bad guys called the rakshasas ( blood - drinkers ). Blood-sacrifice was part of the black - magic rituals in south-america at the time of padmasambhava and sadly continues to exist still in our times.
Physical immortality seems to be a still higher attainment or greater shift of the ap beyond the third attention of the new seers.
