"Lest the silver cord be loosed and the spirit returneth to God from whence it came."
There is a "second death" or death of the soul mentioned in Revelations. Not all go through it though.
It sounds like something similar to what you are saying;
The soul (all that makes us human) can be destroyed but the spirit (energy) lives on.
In this sense, being "saved" would be both spirit and soul surviving.
In this same sense, (the biblical sense) the person who died without belieiving in Jesus would experience the second death, or (death of the soul) and be no more in an "individual" sense.
Those, on the other hand,(who do believe in Jesus) do not "taste of the "second death". Similar to those who "slip past the eagle", they would live on. Both soul and spirit.
The silver cord being loosed and the "spirit returning to God from whence it came" could also be looked at as the same or similar event as those who Do Not "slip past the eagle", but are devoured by him.Bright Flame
