All I see are the effects...i.e. what's going on in my mind when pursuing silence.
It could be that the whole notion of an actual predatory vampire licking our energy is more subterfuge, like DJ's fish headed monster, to engender intensity and sustain. As DJ mentioned, warriors picked by power to uphold the Rule, in that lineage, had to be tricked more often than not, into following the path. The tricks were perceptual, of course.
Story goes that the flyer leaves once inner silence/awareness is crystallized, because we "taste bad" at that point. Or is it that the phantom/shadow of the flyer disperses once the lights are turned on and kept on? I'm inclined to believe the latter, but then again....whatever works!
