Really cool Lex, the story took me there! First with Lou who distinguished good and bad, then him gradually slipping into the nothing, the Allgood. Tying the senses into it was effective. Perhaps our senses at first deceive but that connecting element of "indescribable pleasure" is beyond the senses, and ever present. I saw all the Buddhist connections here. Great story!
What happened for me at the end was I wondered if, at the sound of the horn, he went back to perceiving the way he was before Sam's arrival. Of course he was altered from the experience, but its hard to go through life in that sameness...because at first he could not tell what that horn was, its only when he resumed his senses to distinguish things that he made order out of the world again, order being the fragmenting of it--the sound is the horn of the tow truck, his car needs towing etc...separation of objects again.
