My suspicion is that your "private" areas are doing fine because you've all become inbred and can't see the forest for the trees.
If you don't like my honest opinion on this, great, you can go back to what you were doing. It seems to be working out fine.
Oh wait, actually it isn't, because everything everyone has said about how it "used to be" tells me it was BETTER and is now a lot worse.
