Hello to all I would like to share some of my stories and perceptions of travels and people I have met on this awesome planet.
TALES FROM THAILAND In 2003 I traveled to Thailand for three months. There I visited many of the beautiful provinces of this magical country. Leaving Canada
was a big deal for me because before this trip the only other place I ever had seen was Barbados so I had no idea what the third world really was like.
Traveling with my girlfriend at the time was amazing but it also was horrible. (She is now my ex but we are friends) We landed in Bangkok around 12 or 1 in the
morning. The flight was brutal Montreal-Vancouver-Taiwan-Thailand. Thai air was by far the best airline I have ever been on. We slept in the airport and in the
early morn we went to khao San Rd.-The backpacker haven. The ride in the airport bus was AMAZING, to see all the things the cars, the motorbikes, sky trains,
the smog, and the crazy mad driving skills of the Thais. Bangkok was more modern than I expected. One Place we went was in the south of Thailand called ko Hai
Ko means island. Now this place was magical for example we had a hut very close to the ocean and I had a dream that was really vivid and intense. My dream was
that the hut was surrounded by water and then I could actually feel the ocean pull me and I remember hearing strange noises out in the ocean. This Island had
two sides one for rich people with all the nice hotels and stuff and the other side was really barren, secluded and cheap, that is where we stayed.
So now jumping to another part of the trip in the north of Thailand, Chang Mai. Chang Mai was really cool, there was lots of yoga places and new age bookstores
and lots of Thai whores and man they were gorgeous. I remember walking at night one time and my GF was mad about something and she walked a bit ahead of me and
I remember the girls who were all outside the bars on the street and were touching my back and saying "c'mon we have good time" I almost did, I
mean my body wanted to that's for sure. So we went on a 3 day hike into the forest with a guide named Ducit and a few other travelers It was really
beautiful, I remember Ducit giving us our lunches rapped in some kind of big leaf. One part of the hike we stayed over night in this camp and it was chilly at
night. There was this man who seemed to be the the guy who took care of the camp whenever guides came through. He would set up the things we needed like
building a fire. I was very interested in the Thai culture and the superstitious ways that they have. This man told us a story by the fire at night with Ducit
translating in his broken english He said that sometimes when he is there alone at night he would hear strange noises in the forest that were not animals or
people. He said they were spirits and that he was not afraid because he had his songs to sing when it was too much for him to handle. The Thais are
superstitious, I learned that a lot of people and families keep a little tiny spirit house outside their house on a pole and they put food offerings on it for
the spirits, I thought that they were and are a really nice culture, they are so very respectful.
