Bonsai
#1
So today is the day. Its been a dream of mine to start my bonsai business for many years since I attended University for horticulture. I love, no I adore trees and flowers of all kinds In fact my favorite color is the fresh vibrant new growth on tree shoots resting in the sunlight. Last year I came by some land and I started a few hundred bonsai. This year I am going big and have started 25 000 of them. Today I bought my soil and tomorrow is will be delivered so I can begin my planting. The best part is that everyone I talk to about the art of bonsai makes me a customer. The demand is there but in my neck of the woods I have no competition. Online they sell starter trees for 40$ Canadian. I plan on going whoesale and chopping the price in half. If i sell all my trees for 20$ a pop I will be netting $250 000. My business will be online and I have a store front already. I plan on traveling to every nursery in the area and selling my precious cargo. The competition is very very slim to none. Online bonsai sellers have a limited range of trees they sell. Its like they're either dumb or lazy. Most retailers offer about 5 different kinds of trees for expensive prices. I plan on selling every kind of bonsai that you can grow in my climate and eventually aquiring a heated greenhouse for tropical bonsai varieties. Bonsai is a beautiful art of trraining any kind of tree to be kept small and miniature. Many think bonsai is a type of tree but really it is the art of keeping the tree small.

Above is a beautiful wisteria. I am planting 1200 of them this year.

Above is a beautiful paper birch. I am planting aprox. 2000 of this babies.

Above is a beautiful Japanese Maple. I have 1000 of these amazing specimens started.

Above is a lovely Lilac bonsai. I have about 1100 of these babies.

I have about 20 other variieties started..

This is actually very cool. Especially the wisteria and lilac. Are you online yet and how would you ship something like this? Only locally or could three of those plants make it safely to Colorado?

Well I have to grow them first, but yes I plan on shipping, carefully, my trees all over the globe. Shipping can cost like 20-50$ tho.. Once my trees are saleable size, in two to three years i will be giving my sorcery friends some freebies. But they may have to split the shipping fee.

I am not online yet, and this year, probably the next few months i will secure my website. I will be selling starter trees to start, and bonsai seeds.

I have a few 1 year old wisterias already in the ground. I could possibly be persuaded to part with some bonsai seedlings. They would be easy to ship too, but you would have to pot them yourself.

Pfffffffft. I can totally pot seedlings myself. I just don't know anything about proper care and feeding of wisteria bonsais. For the sorcery friends and giving them freebies, just a thought (I've a few friends who do start-ups, though none garden related) if you're giving people free plants, they ought to pay for their own shipping. It shouldn't cost you anything to give away your product, otherwise you are not making money but I understand you wanting to share and having a generous heart; but know that asking people to pay for their own shipping to get a free product is very reasonable. But that's just me and I understand your desire to splurge and treat your friends, if possible.

When you get a website up with secure payment methods, I'm all down for buying seeds and/or seedlings. Not sure I'm patient enough to wait two or three years, lol.

With every order will be a brochure for every species you buy, informing you of the proper care and maintenance.

Yeah sure I get ya. But my sorcery friends have birthdays and christmas and this way I can offer them a free tree. Sorcery and bonsai go well together.

I remember when I finished school I denounced most of what they taught me. My knowledge for nature became fluid and I could control the nature with my awareness. When I finished school I had learned a lot of the first attention nature but nothing of the second attention potential. After years of loving nature in other worlds I have come to learn a great deal about super trees. How to tell a tree to manifest branches and create pictures in their foliage and many other little tricks I plan to apply to my trees.

You would be surprised how fast 2 or 3 years can go.. Or not.. You can make it a leap that goes really fast or you can draw it out so each day is like a day on Jupiter. Sometimes I do both at once and so my time goes so fast and also seems like ages have past.. Its just a matter of perception.

I love that you'll send a brochure to teach people how to take care of their plant.  That is very nice.

You know, speaking of trees...

I worked as a computer tech and my boss asked me one day if I knew anything about trees or landscaping. I didn't, but I asked him questions because I was curious. Turns out, he had a landscaper who did what you say you do--the talking to trees, helping them to grow branches, stuff like this. One thing he mentioned was how his mango tree stopped putting out fruit for the past few years and it wasn't dying or past the age trees give fruit. The landscaper came in and made cuts along the trunk of the tree (and maybe the branches too? I can't remember now, this was years ago). The landscaper told the tree it would either put out fruit or receive deep cuts. Soon after it did wind up putting out fruit and the situation was resolved. Now, whether that had to do with the act or the communication or both, I can't say (I'm not a tree whisperer). What I do wonder, on a more basic level, is if the stress from the cuts into the trunk applied enough of an internal shock to get the tree to produce fruit.

Have you heard of that? I ignorantly assume this technique could apply to other fruit-bearing type trees, but I honestly have no idea.

Thanks and yes stressing a plant or tree is often encouraged by many horticulturalists, but not by myself. Trees will grow with great love and encouragment. I often empwer the trees, and allow them to do things impossible, much like my students. Like written in the Bible if you tell a tree with faith to uproot itself and move to the ocean it will. I enoy command over my trees, however I give them the leeway to decide what is best for themselves. This way I encourage freedom with my trees.

Don't be the infamous serloco... infamous means notoriously bad and deseveving condemnation/lol.

Good luck, serloco, with bonsai.  I will keep in touch once in while via e-mail (you can do likewise).

Oh billy, I would not defy my past days of being truly infamous. However on the flip side I have been very heroic for good causes.

Thanks for the luck. Yeah yeah we will keep in touch.

Another common myth about bonsai trees are that they are man made, however they do grow naturally when a seed falls into a crevice within a rock. I am planning on growing many of my trees on rocks like the image below.

Well it was planting day for me. I am a lil late but not too much. I worked all day and got most of my trees planted. I had some early sprouters and sadly i had to plant every one by hand. It was tedious to say the least. I got a lil of a tan tho. I love working for myself. Many of my lilacs and golden larches had fungus on the seeds and so i wil be taking a loss. Next years crop i wil dust with fungicide first. You live and you learn.

VERY COOL BY MY RUTHLESS STANDARDS!!!! Best of all success with your endeavors!!! I have NEVER seen Bonsai plants like this They are always green, period!!! You've really impressed me, dude. Not easy to do these days!  sacateca

Now, let me ask you sacateca, why are you using capital LARGE lettering and multiple exclamation marks??
Notice everyone else responded in normal size print.  You must be some special kind of pompous jerk.  See, I want to learn from you, since I'm just a regular jerk.

serloco impressed you, huh?  serloco, merely printed internet photos.  Connecting to reality, these plants shown are rare items that likely took well over a decade of someone's artistic cultivation.
serloco himself is telling you he just started an endeavor of planting seedlings.  Yes, serloco has a vision, but aren't you are being overly ostentateously exclamatory, sacateca?

I mean, I would be totally impressed if serloco gets rudimentary plants to the market in any substantial number (as would he).  You seem disconnected from reality sacateca.
This man must go into the field and fertilize, and water, and weed, and prune, and dig, and advertise, and negotiate, and sell, and package, and process, and bill, and transport, and generally work his ass off, etc.

I want serloco and [CP] to know I comprehend what commitment, persistence and qualities it takes to bring spirit to a desirable form.  Though Billy obtains to high ideals, [SEE] he does so because he is fundamentally grounded in reality.

YOU'VE REALLY IMPRESSED ME, DUDE...! (sacateca)

Why all the large print and exclamation marks, sacateca?

Notice everyone else responded in normal print.  Why are you obligated to be an ostentateous pompous jerk, sacateca? I want to learn from you, since I'm just a regular jerk.

Are you that disconnected from reality, sacateca.  Yes, that is a nice vision serloco has; but, he himself said he has only planted seedlings.

serloco needs to go into the fields and fertilize, and water, and weed, and dig, and bundle, etc.  Then, there is advertising, negotiating, processing and packaging to be done.  He must bill, and handle, and ship, and do accounting.  serloco must work his ass off.  He has not done one of these things yet; but, you are REALLY IMPRESSED?  You, and your 'ruthless standards,' are a joke.

I will be plenty impressed if serloco can get a substantial number of very rudimentary plants to market {as will he (you've got a job to do don serloco)}.

Billy wants serloco and [CP] to know he comprehends the commitment, persistence, and qualities it takes to bring spirit to desirable form.  He is fundamentally grounded and able.

Yeah it is true I will have loads of work to do... The cultivars I am growing are hardy trees however. Mostly you can let them go and they will take care of themselves as far as fertilizer and water goes.. Shaping the trees I would not call work for me but play. It is a rewarding business for me. I am left pondering if I wil do the work myself or hire student for cheap to do the work for me. I think it is cool that I can hire employees to do my work for me. I suspect the shaping will be done mostly by myself because I love it!

Yes Sacateca, most bonsai these days are green. Most people think bonsai is a type of tree, however bonsai is really the art form you do to a tree and not the tree itself. The art of bonsai can be done to any tree mostly, however cultivars with smaller leaves are best suited for the art.

Thanks for the support. Today I have another 5000+ to plant.

All done my work for this season. Now I let them grow out all year. Fertilizer in is the soil for this season already.. I talked to my mom and she said i might be able to use even more land next year. So it looks like 25 000 trees is just the beginning for me.
