It is my study that most human beings are born with two parts/sides/compartments that is referred to in Modern Nagualism as the Tonal and Nagual. The Tonal is the rational, the describable, the emotional, it is us as human beings. The Nagual side is the greater us, it is more than senses, it is in a sense our totality of our self, it is awareness. The nagual side dreams and in dreaming we begin to access it, develop it, make it more that just awareness. Human Beings are born with both sides most of the time. There are some beings though that are born with more than two sides.
My belief is that there is a mutation of the species that shows up in different life forms and it is the design of power. This would be a Nagual being who is born this way. I call it being born with a 'link to power' and that whether the Nagual being is aware or not of this link, the link is still there and the being is subject to the designs of nagualism.
The three compartment being is usually off balanced either physically or mentally. Two compartment that are tonal and one nagual can often cause serious mental complications and the being has a double personality or more. The three compartment being with two nagual sides and a tonal such as CC is connected to power by the dual nagual sides and one of the nagual sides is more predominate over the other when it is manifested.
A four compartment being has a complete double that can and does coexist within or with out the physical being. This double is connected to the designs of the spirit. A nagual being uses its complete double to survive physical death whether it chooses to or not. This double has been described in many ways in our cultures from everything such as a demon or ghost to an angel or guide. Most people believe that the compartments must be seen and there must be four to define themselves or others as a "nagual." A nagual being can see another nagual being but the true verification is through the link with spirit for the other's nagual double may not be present when being 'seen.' This link can be described as having a constant companion which is unseen but always with you. I have seen my double and its compartments mirror mine which is two but when the double is within me I will be seen as having four. It is my belief when my physical body ceases to exist, my double and I will merge. The eagle who will devour the other two compartments of my physical body. Hard to explain but to keep it simple, a nagual being is born with four compartments, develops a complete double which uses two of the compartments and when death comes, the human self faces the Eagle but the complete double goes on unchallenged a by the design of power and the Eagle knows this rule. The nagual being must merge into the complete double and perform the feat before its "human self" is devoured.
The being that was only two sides has basically the same task. To shift into the third attention so that its double does the same thing, escape death of awareness when its time to face the Eagle. Of course, this shift can occur at anytime and facing the eagle is not a requirement to perform the feat but the end result is to make it final.
