Three Wings Training (Heyoka)

Three Wings Training
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The three exercises i'm giving you should be done daily for a month before anything is added to them. they don't seem very hard and they probably don't seem very useful. but they are difficult and powerful if they are done well. it doesn't matter if you believe the things i believe or if you have my goals. these practises and the ones that follow are a way of entering an ancient truth, which is the same for everyone. parts of that truth are difficult to accept and people often turn away from it, or blame those who introduce them to it, accuse them of deception and dark work. it's just truth. it is here all around us right now and always has been. some choose to face it.
if there were fifty of us gathered here in a temple hall at this moment, ready to begin this training, you could look out over that group and be certain that no more than five would be here, still practising, in a month. people give up for ordinary reasons, before they even encounter the difficult things. and many who consider themselves accomplished will not even try, will instead tell themselves they know this or have what results from it and will not waste their time in simple things. but i will, because i know where this leads, and because i know that practising the simple things again will only make me stronger.
the first technique is a physical stance called Gathering Power. it is the same as Holding the Tree except that the arms are held so that palms are over the knees, not touching them but in line with them. the wider the stance the more difficult it is and you should not try so wide a stance that you can't hold it for five minutes. take a stance with the feet shoulder width apart and slightly bent and widen it with continued practise. it's easy to do this one wrong, so a good thing to do is to practise in stockinged feet on a bare floor like kitchen linoleum. that way if the inner tension of the thighs is not correct the feet will slide outward and show up your mistake. five minutes in that stance is enough to generate ching energy, the raw force. more time is better but it is more important to do it correctly and discover your weaknesses than to cheat and stand for a long time. in the extreme posture the feet are wide apart and the knees are bent at right angles. that's not something for beginners.
the second technique is a sitting meditation called Emperor's Posture. it requires a straight chair without much padding on the seat. you sit with your hipbones on the very edge of the chair seat, which places pressure on energy channels to the legs and limits the flow to them. your feet are shoulder width apart, your legs are bent at right angles, your palms are resting on your kneecaps. otherwise the internal structure is the same as holding the tree, spinal curve and pelvic angle are the same as that. the focus of the attention is shifted to the root chakra, which is between the anus and the genitals. when you are focused on that spot you feel an increased sensitivity there. in gathering power the attention is placed on the dantien, a power center in the lower abdomen. shifting quietly into emperor's posture you shift the internal focus to the root chakra and hold your focus on that point for five minutes. the combination of these two creates energy by placing stress on the legs, stores that energy in the dantien, and leads that energy to the root chakra to restore health and vitality. sensations of energy flow and heat are common in this practise and the more you do this the more powerful it becomes, at first subtle and after long practise, obvious.
the third technique doesn't have a name but is common to many magical training systems, icliding the old buddhist path. you learn to see the color dark blue with your eyes closed, using your subtle vision. i tried to insert a picture here of a blue sphere for you to practise with, but couldn't get it to work. any dark blue sphere will do. if you can't see color in your inner mind, try this:
look at the blue sphere for a moment, then close your eyes and try to remember it. don't remember it as words or knowledge but as the vision of a blue sphere. when you close your eyes you have a lingering image of it, just a flash. when you remember it, another flash. as your ability increases the image grows in clarity and duration. to complete this practise, imagine that blue light fills the universe and everything is flooded with that blue energy. then imagine that all this condenses into a blue sphere of light three inches in diameter, hold it there a moment and then release it, letting it fill the universe again. practise this for five minutes and end by releasing the energy.
success and failure don't enter into this. if you make the effort for the required period of time, even if you feel you fail at it, you have done it well. when you do not make that honest effort you are not in the practise. results accumulate with continued effort.
it helps to share the experience you have with others who are doing this, so keep a record of any difficulties or events of interest and post that here. if you have any questions, ask. just don't be in a hurry. trees grow slowly but they don't stop.
