Seeing your energy (Nagual Lone Wolf)
#1
Flickering movements are something real, but it is hard to believe in them as important. There's an energy passing
between your fingertips and because you are gazing at that area you are gradually becoming able to see it. The human eye
tends to wander, when it does stay in one place there is a problem with distortion and misperception because of
afterimages that persist in the retina. But, perceiving subtle energies depends on holding the eyes quiet, so you have to learn
to distinguish the real from the unreal. The real energy will act differently from an afterimage, when you move your focus
you'll leave it behind. Afterimages follow your point of focus.
You can see definite flows of energy and centers of energy like vortexes when you've practiced Holding the Tree for
awhile. Some of these flows are internal and some are connected to distant sources like the sun and the moon. You see
them whether your eyes are open or closed, whether it is light or dark where you are. You can practice with closed eyes
but it's more difficult because it affects balance, but that is a step you take in the upper levels of the system. You practice at
night or in total darkness in order to develop the esoteric perceptions and learn inner balance. It's strange, when you do
these things in the evening just at dark you can feel a sudden shift as the sun drops below the horizon, there is a definite
moment when things change and your balance is not so steady as it was. Everybody notices these things, and you'd pass
right by them if you didn't approach things in this way.
Gazing at the fingers has a reason, it is a natural way of focusing the mind and the awareness in the fingers and that brings
the energy that you are seeing to the fingers. Yes, it does complete a circuit there, jumping from hand to hand.
If you close your eyes you should still keep your mental focus on your fingertips, that is an essential part of the exercise.
Tough because now you've set yourself a more difficult task, becoming aware of two points at once. You have to be aware
of your fingertips and also of the dantien in the lower abdomen. With your eyes open you have a natural aid to that double
focus, your eyes focus your mind on one point and your will focuses your mind on the other. That's what causes the
circulation, awareness of two points.
