I was able to have a conversation with Don Juan, in dreaming, about the "requirements" for sorcerers to follow different paths, and here's basically what he had to say. All sorcerers have to be sane in order to practice sorcery, and sanity is simply the ability to make choices for yourself, you have to possess free will. This is the only requirement for sorcerers who practice straight inorganic sorcery because this is all that inorganic beings require from you, but they do not require you to have any morals. Both Nagualism and the paths of the Death Defiers require you to know right from wrong. The difference between them is that Nagualism does what is best for freedom, whereas the Death Defiers do what is best for them. Some kinds of Death Defiers turn into insects, and are no longer human, which is why they appear to lose their morality. What has actually happened is that they traded human morals for insect morals, because humanity is not a requirement of the Death Defier paths. The only path which requires you to maintain free will, morality and your humanity is Nagualism. Lastly, the inorganic path requires you to maintain your ego, but Nagualism does not.
