DON JUAN'S BENCH- What would you say to Don Juan if given the chance?
#1
Remember the bench in the mexican town where Don Juan and Carlos would have deep conversations? It was on the bench, Carlos learned to see. If you could go to that bench and sit with Don Juan what would you ask him? What would be your conversation? What would you want to know about his tales of power?

As I recall, that bench was outside a church in Oaxaca, and when I was there, there were no benches, at least not wooden ones, which I imagined when I read the book...there were some cast iron ones, however, which were right opposite the church doors at the north end of the plaza.

Were I to sit with don Juan now, I would ask him why his beans are so mediocre, and offer him my recipe. To ask about tales of power is a trick.

I would thank him and tell him I wish to see and meet him more often .

I would not know what to say, words would seem so insignificant. But depending on what transpired, the words would align appropriately. Most important would be the energy. It would be an honor to have such an event. Not because he is a great man, but because he is a great sorcerer. I'm with Watergaze...would seek to meet him in future.

Dear All,

I suppose it is easy to conceptualize story's and circumstances, kind of like filling in the blanks or making **** up. As far as I understand it/conceptualized/fantasized it, Don Juan and the rest of his bunch ran out of time, whatever that means, at which point they decided that it would be best to disappear from the world as we know it and go live instead with some kind of red bugs that Don Juan thought were very beautiful. On a side note I read recently that Ants and Bees are two forms of highly evolved life. Perhaps Don Juans bugs are also. I imagine that Freedom is itself perhaps a type of high evolution. I read that Freedom actually applies to all types of life, It was funny to me to find out that there are Warrior dogs, living impeccable lives in search of knowledge. Makes me want to try a bit harder when I think about a Dog having more knowledge than me!! woof.
PS,
I posted this address in another forum but in case you find it interesting as I did.  It is a site I just stumbled across.   I am more and more fascinated with the possibility of  meetings like this person reports to have had, decide for yourself weather you think it is possible.

First of all, one would have to arrive at the conclusion that it was, indeed, the don Juan from the books. However, assuming that that first hurdle could transpire without any dialog, what would one ask? Nothing. I would ask nothing of him. Perhaps just nod my head in respect and go about my business.

I understand the aspect of respecting a developed being. Something to consider...Don Juan would welcome interaction/exchange with other sorcerers/warriors as much as we would him. He learns this way too. Always there is something new to discover/learn...no matter who you are, and if that were not the case, then life would get dull. And if he needed nothing from us, it would be hard for him not to become cynical about all the imbalance in people. If he needs other people, he thus has a reason to appreciate the levels of development each is going through while knowing power still works through such people upon him and thus his integrity is called into service. And we could say this not just about Don Juan, but any highly developed being.

Nice thought, however, it was made clear in the book, regarding DJ's meeting of CC, that DJ did not welcome interaction. He refused to speak to the man that brought CC to him and barely tolerated CC at first. The books never suggested that DJ got anything from CC. The only reason he ever gave CC the time of day was due to his "seeing" CC as being like a nagual (rather than seeing CC wishing he were one).

Don Juan's controlled folly...He said many things to cc and what he said was what Carlos needed to hear. Don Juan would adapt to Carlos, you see the progression as the books go along and his apprenticeship deepens. What I feel about Don Juan is he can be any way he wants to be, but chooses the Nagual path, in which case he listens to power and adapts.

Dear LoneWolf,

I was wondering how you would answer the thread question?

I would ask if he would tell the stories of the lineages among the tribes

First I would ask DJ how he is doing? What's up Bro? Next, I would inquire about Carlos and his final challenge. I would share my own thoughts on the teachings and hopefully he would comment on them and lastly I would seek to go with him and join his party where ever they may be.

Dear LoneWolf,

Thanks for answering.

If you have a genuine question for DJ (as opposed to curiosity) that relates to your path and if you think that noone else may be able to answer it, then there is a possibility that he may answer in some form.
